A Little About Us

I'm new at the whole blogging thing, so bare with me...

My name is Auriel Gourley, soon to be Auriel Anderson. I have been working in the Veterinary Medicine for 5 years, and still interested in this field. I have wanted to be a Veterinarian since I can remember, so pursuing that dream is in progress. It's a little scary thinking that by the time I graduate I will be in about $200,000 in debt, if I get accepted to Grad school. I am wanting to start school this Fall so I can get going on the Veterinary dream, which will take about 8 years if I stay a general Veterinarian. If I want to become a specialist Veterinarian, like orthopedic surgeon, ultrasonographer, dermatologist, dentistry, ophthalmologist, radiologist, neurologist, ect. I will be looking at about 12 years of "college", which means I'll be in even more debt. With that being said it has made me lean more towards being a "general veterinarian", but I will have to decide if I want to be a large animal veterinarian, small animal veterinarian, or exotic veterinarian. With my experience, I'm thinking small animal veterinarian will be suitable for me.
I have been told, and read, that getting into Veterinary Grad School is harder than getting into Doctor Grad School. Having that on the back of my mind has made me think of other careers that I would be interested in and/or good at. My family has told me that I would be good a being a Lawyer because I like to argue, I would be a great psychologist because I listen to people and give some good advice on different situations, or I would be good at being a nurse because I "don't care for people as much as I do for animals". Needless to say there is a lot that I have to consider and look into. Hopefully with these other options in careers I won't be in as much debt as I will with becoming a veterinarian.
On a different subject, I love being outdoors. Although, I absolutely hate insects and reptiles so when I see those things I scream and run away. Hoping that my cute, adorable, NOW, fiance will kill them for me :). They are disgusting and creep me out. Putting those aside, I enjoy doing activities outside, which consist of camping, 4-wheeling, longboarding, hiking, walking, biking, picnics, fires, etc. Mosquitoes are my worst enemy. I am my families personal bug repellant to which they are grateful for and love. They love to see me full of mosquito bites and constantly scratching because I have prevented them from getting bit. So when it comes nighttime, I load up on bug repellant in hopes that I won't get a single bite. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it stops working, my activities at night involve being indoors.
I could go on and on telling you about myself, but I think it's time to tell you about my Fiance - Braxton.

My fiance's name is Braxton Anderson. He has worked in the veterinary medicine for 8 years. For a while he loved working in the field and thought about becoming a veterinarian himself, but for some people working in the veterinary medicine changes their mind and makes them want to become something else when they get older. He has thought about many different careers, but none of them have seemed "right" to him or have even "suited" him for that matter, except one... FIREFIGHTER! He wants to become a firefighter and I fully support him in it. He doesn't think about the benefits that come with being a firefighter, he thinks about what he can do as a firefighter. Helping people. Rescuing people. SAVING people. He understands that there are risks in every job out there, but this one has many. He understands that each time a firefighter goes out on a job the chance of something seriously happening is very high, which he's worried about but he puts that on the back burner and worries about the person in need. Helping people gives him a "high" so to speak. He loves to help people and that is why firefighter has come to his mind. Talking about that has been a long and difficult conversation, but we have both come to realize that a firefighter is who Braxton is, who he will become, who he needs to be.
Braxton graduated high school and continued onto college. He got his associates in science and would like to continue going, but like myself, the debt scares us both. But to become a firefighter, you have to have your EMT, which means more schooling. I think that if both of us go to school at the same time, it will help us and encourage us to continue.
Braxton is a very shy person who takes a while to warm up to anyone. He likes to watch people before he talks to them. Get a better understanding of who they are by what they do. When he gets that understanding, then he builds the courage to finally talk to them - usually by cracking a joke to break the "tension". But once you get to know Braxton he has the biggest, sweetest, loving heart any man can have. But like I said, it takes a little while to get him to talk, open up to you.
Braxton, as well, enjoys the outdoors. He isn't afraid of much when it comes to the outdoors, or maybe he is but hasn't shown it. He enjoys going on adventures and possibly getting lost. Some of the activities he likes doing outside consist of camping, 4-wheeling, hiking, biking, picnics, fires and just started longboarding when we started dating. If he can be outside, he will be outside. He hates the winter because that means he has to be cooped up inside, and yet he finds things to do outside in the freezing cold weather like: cleaning his truck, chopping wood, picking up dog poop, cleaning the chicken coop, sweeping the driveway, shoveling snow, using the snowblower, etc. This kid absolutely loves the outdoors... So like I said, if he can be outside, he will be outside!
Well, like myself, I can go on and on telling you about Braxton but I'll spare you. This is Auriel and Braxton and I hope I didn't bore you with telling you about us. Take care.
